How Much Is Your Time Worth?

Calculating Your Value... This Dispatch marks the end of the tenth year of the PikeNet Dispatch. Wow. The last decade (1996-2005) went quickly!

But, even more amazing to me, for the previous twenty-five years I was a real estate broker. And, although it seems a long time ago, I loved the adrenaline highs (and lows?) of earning transaction commission income.

This thought may be politically incorrect these days with the current emphasis on "corporate services" and "professional fees." But this "high" is the necessary compensation to brokers for the normal disappointments experienced by all salespersons.

It's all or nothing -- which may be why brokers rarely think about their "per diem value." But my friend, Ralph Spencer, who teaches brokers courses on time and productivity, wants to change this attitude.

Intelligent business planning begins with some idea of your desired per diem value. So Spencer has posted a helpful interactive "dial" (above) to display your per diem value. Watch the needle move as you change your commission split, vacation days, holidays, etc. Very cool.
