1. "We Sell Property."... So proclaims the home page of the Office of Property Disposal of the Public Buildings Service of the GSA (General Services Administration). Want to buy a beautiful, historic building in Pasadena, California, near Caltech where "the government worked on the first atomic bomb"? Contact Rock Southward (rock.southward@gsa.gov) or visit the Office of Property Disposal site on the web. Currently you'll find over a dozen properties offered across the U.S., including a 3.3 million square foot "industrial structure" in Columbus, Ohio. And, you'll find links to other government agencies like the VA, HUD and Commerce also with properties for sale, e.g., the Dallas Naval Air Station (Go to Other Agencies, Commerce, Select by Location, Texas, NAS Dallas). More government property? "The best opportunity in the marketplace today for commercial and industrial businesses seeking competitive advantages through affordable and strategic site locations." That's the description of Operation Enterprise under which the U.S. Army has opened up for civilian use 15 Army ammunition plants as "affordable manufacturing or office sites." Complete details can be found at their web site, including maps and pictures. There's a total of "10,000 buildings encompassing over 31 million square feet" located in a dozen states. Wow. (To find the above sites quickly, click the "Featured Sites" hyperlinks toward the bottom right side of the PikeNet home page.) 2. New and Notable... The Ciminelli Development Company with offices near Buffalo owns and manages commercial and industrial real estate in New York and Florida. NHP Incorporated is a publicly traded company which provides an array of services to the multifamily apartment industry. George Carlson, an enterprising broker with the John Burnham Company, specializes in apartment investments in San Diego. Woodmont Real Estate Services provides management services for office, retail, industrial and apartments in Northern California. AMP Shopping Centres, which owns and manages retail centers across Australia, has put up an excellent site with detailed information on all properties in its portfolio. Regional Financial Associates (RFA) posts up some of the best macro economic analysis on the web, an extraordinary resource. Vaughn Management, based in Austin, covers Texas with property management services, including Melrose Place on a "quiet cul-de-sac" in Austin. Sydney Tower at Centrepoint, Australia's tallest building goes online with beautiful city views. Toronto ICI provides a commercial listing service for Markham, Richmond Hill and North York, and Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. Westdale Asset Management Company's site displays two very attractive loft developments in Dallas, Texas. MetroScan's promotional site provides information on its product line. Dennis Barak Real Estate & Investments provides commercial and residential services in Israel from offices in Tel Aviv. Association Management, Inc. manages community associations exclusively in Texas. 3. Win REA!... Developed by Tim Creagh, the Real Estate Assistant is one of the leading personal information managers used by property professionals in the U.S. and Canada. Retail value is $395. We will give away a free copy to a randomly selected person from the first 50 people who register. Click the hyperlink at the top of the home page. 4. Web Success... Colliers Arnold leased office space in the Tampa Bay Area to Atlanta Testing and Engineering thanks to the Internet. Using the World Wide Web in their search, Atlanta Testing explored the Colliers Arnold web site and was impressed with Arnold's market knowledge and listing information. They left an e-mail requesting more information which eventually resulted in a 3,000 square foot lease. 5. REIPA... On October 26-27, 1996, the Real Estate Information Providers Association will hold its first annual meeting in San Francisco just ahead of the Mortgage Bankers Association meeting. Panels will include discussions of Proprietary Commercial Real Estate Databases, Internet Tools and Technology and Demographics: Putting the "Who" into "Where." This will be a valuable conference for all those in the real estate industry that have developed web sites. You can sign up at http://www.reipa.com which is REIPA's web site. (Click "Industry News" and then the conference hyperlink.) 6. Statistics... The San Jose Metro reported in its September 5, 1996, edition that Pacific Bell, which provides phone service in California, is adding 4 to 5,000 ISDN customers a month. Having used ISDN service for over six months, I can testify that having the ability to access the web at 64 to 128k makes a world of difference. Every business that's serious about using the web as a resource should have ISDN service, if it's available. 7. PikeNet Birthday... PikeNet was launched on March 21, 1996, just six months ago tomorrow. How many dog years ago was that? As I've written before, time moves very quickly on the web. In August traffic was up 31% with total visits of 2,949. Thank you all! 8. Subscribing and Canceling...
