1. NEW AND NOTABLE. Koll's National Real Estate Index provides Market Briefs with price and rent performance data for commercial properties in 57 U.S. markets, free for a limited time. Marathon Oil Company is one of the few corporations to use the web as a vehicle for marketing surplus properties. H.B. Pascal & Company markets its financial analysis software packages--OFFICE/2®, CENTER™ and APARTMENT/3™. MLG, the Mooney LeSage Group, provides services statewide in Wisconsin. eSPACE onLINE, already established in Canada, is a new entrant in the race to create a national listing service with space available in Atlanta up and promises of Chicago, New York and Los Angeles to come. In Canada, eSPACE onLINE hosts sites for a number of companies, including Trizec, Sun Life of Canda, Standard Life and the Canderel Group. Griswold Real Estate Mangement provides multi-family and residential property management services in Southern California and Nevada. 2. OOPS. You see web addresses on TV commercials and movie trailers, but not in the properties classified section of Friday's Wall Street Journal. This is not a scientific survey, but last Friday, January 14, I counted 114 advertisements. Of these only 4 included a URL. There were 11 advertisers that have web sites, but did not include their URLs. That leaves 99 other advertisers that do not have web sites. 3. PIKENET TIP. You can now hear a welcome from me at PikeNet. On my home page I added a link to a RealAudio sound file with a recorded greeting in which I (try to) describe in less that a minute and a half the essence of PikeNetwhat it is and how you use it. If you don't have the RealAudio Player, you'll need to download it from the RealAudio hyperlink. The public version is free, although I would encourage you to buy the commercial version so that you can listen to stereo broadcasts on the web. As I remember, it will pretty well install itself with Netscape 3.0 or Microsoft's Explorer 3.0. It's more complicated with AOL; consult the FAQs. 4. WEB SUCCESS. . The Columbus Realty Trust REIT, which develops Dallas apartment communities, has done a superb job of creating an "Investor Road Show." To find it, go to the Investor Relations section. Here you'll find RealAudio (note the preceding paragraph) recordings by the CEO, the COO, a tenant, and even Roger Staubach himself, a board member, as well as pictures and financial information. There's no question that you come away from this kind of a web production with a much more powerful understanding of a company than a simple text and graphics presentation. Check it out. 5. SITE OF THE WEEK. Compass Retail, Inc. which manages 40 regional centers containing 33 million square feet links each property with a leasing professional. 6. SUBSCRIBING/CANCELING.
