1. WEB SUCCESS. The New America Network provides access for corporate clients to its intranet which tracks the status of leasing, acquisition and disposition assignments. According to Kimberly A. Kocur, Senior Director-Corporate Services, this enables a client to log on to the Internet anywhere and, for example, find out the status of a lease document or the number of prospective buyers that might have toured a surplus property. No need for weekly or monthly printed reports. It's all there in real time.

2. NEW AND NOTABLE. Grubb & Ellis' Denver office is now online with office, industrial, retail and apartment listings and an electronic staff directory. Bedford Property Investors, a San Francisco Bay Area-based REIT, specializes in industrial and suburban office properties primarily in the Western U.S. Castle Consulting offers counsel to real estate organizations for GIS software, data and custom applications from its office in San Francisco.

REI-NEX offers space available data information for Atlanta and has begun to link together its regional information providers to a central database. ARCS Commercial Mortgage Co. is an L.A.-headquartered mortgage lender for multifamily and commercial properties nationwide. Timberline Software develops project accounting and cost estimating software for the construction and property management industries. TitleLink is a national electronic linkage service for title companies, lenders and others designed to speed the closing process.

3. ENHANCE YOUR LINK. In March, over 10,000 PikeNet visitors clicked a hyperlink to go to another real estate site. You can increase your site's visibility and likelihood of being clicked by enhancing your hyperlink. Enhanced Links are bolded and moved to the top of the page. For more information, click "Enhanced Links" on the green stripe on the PikeNet home page.

4. MOST FREQUENTLY VISITED SITES. The Top 5 sites after visitors left PikeNet were CB Commercial, New America Network, AllApartments, Marcus & Millichap and CRE-NET. For the complete Top 10 List, go to "About PikeNet" on the home page, and then "Most Visited Sites."

5. WINNING CITY BY CITY. Microsoft launched Seattle Sidewalk, the first of its planned local arts and entertainment guides, last week. Sidewalk faces major competitors, including CitySearch and others. Charles Conn, CEO of CitySearch was quoted in the Wall Street Journal, April 3, 1997, as saying "Local information is a game that has to be won locally, city by city." Conn does expect a few major national chains to emerge over time. I believe that the same is true for real estate listing and information services currently competing for mindshare on the web. It will be a battle fought city by city and company by company.

6. NEW YORK VISIT. I'll be in New York City on Friday, May 23. If your company or organization would like a seminar or talk on the Internet, please send me e-mail or call me at 415-485-6700.
