1. WEB SUCCESS. Brett Nickel of the Tandy Real Estate Department used the commercial-realestate forum of Ted Kraus’ Dealmakers site to announce RadioShack’s search for 200 new locations in 1997. Details were available describing the search criteria, and an e-mail and physical address were provided for respondents. Is this the way retailers will broadcast requirements in the future?

2. NEW AND NOTABLE. Launched by Valuation OnLine, Inc., FindAppraiser.com is a new nationwide listing service for appraisers which creates a unique marketplace for the exchange of appraisal services..…..Geoffrey Dohrmann’s Institutional Real Estate, Inc. has launched its new web site which includes daily news and two special reports on the pension real estate and equity real estate securities markets…….The Morse Company specializes in office, technology, and industrial real estate services in Dallas, TX.

CB Commercial Torto Wheaton Research publishes good information including the CBC/TWR Rent Indices and Space Market Indicators…….Great Lakes REIT specializes in suburban office and light industrial buildings in the Midwest…….The Ten31 Marketplace creates a platform for exchanging and finding replacement properties.

3. LANDAUER--TRANSACTIONS ON THE NET? In the August 6, 1997, Wall Street Journal classified advertising section, Landauer’s Loan Sale Advisory Group noticed the sale of a $42 million first mortgage in New York City and posted its web address for further information. Click "Current Offerings" and then fill out the form or click the "Submit Information" button at the bottom of the page (the form can be left blank). Click on "Times Square Mortgage Note." You’re next presented with information on a confidentiality agreement. After returning a confidentiality agreement and being accepted by Landauer, you would receive an investor Offering Overview Package, which includes a "Password (specific to each investor) for Internet access to offering materials."

"From time to time during the offering period new information may become available and therefore will be subsequently added to the Web site. This method of document distribution will enable Landauer to provide each investor with immediate access to current, up to date information on the offering." Prediction: it will not be long before many other firms will use the web to distribute due diligence material.

Further to last week’s discussion, the American Real Estate Exchange offers dozens of demographic reports on over 100 market areas in the U.S. Registration is free and the data is presented in an easily accessible format. You can search by State, Metropolitan Statistical Area, City/County or ZIP Code…..The U.S. Bureau of the Census provides voluminous information from the 1990 census. You can drill down geographically through states to market areas. Then select the STF3A data and pick out the table that you want, e.g., Median Household Income…..Step-by-step instructions for using both services is included in the PikeNet "Knowledge Base."

6. BUILDING A COMMUNITY ONLINE. "Like every communication network, the Internet is all about establishing and reinforcing connections between people."
