1. Yourcompany.com. The news that Egghead Software is closing all eighty of its remaining physical locations and renaming itself Egghead.com highlights the impact of the web. But as you develop your Internet presence, you realize how the web can impact business and you realize how business valuations will be less tied to physical location in the future. After all if Amazon.com has a market capitalization of two thirds of Barnes & Noble ($1.4 billion v $2.16 billion) and has no stores versus 469 stores (10.4 million square feet), you know something is happening. So think about how your business will change as your customers businesses change. How many other companies will vacate their stores and operate virtually by adding .com after their names? 2. Web Success--E-mail Addresses Produces Business. The net is all about communicating with clients and potential customers. Listen to Erik Foster with Olympia Partners in Indianapolis describe how he was contacted by Projex, a computer/software training firm, "Because my e-mail address is on the signs on the buildings that I have listed, they contacted me through e-mail and I replied. I could not put them in my building, but built good rapport with them and was hired to be their exclusive agent in their search for larger space." Do you have a Web Success story? Send me e-mail. For hyperlinks to sites mentioned above, go to: http://www.pikenet.com/cgi- 3. New and Notable. Spauding & Slye, an integrated real estate services firm with offices in Boston and Washington, DC, launched its sharp new web site. The John Buck Company, headquartered in Chicago, serves clients nationally and internationally. ONCOR International, which provides commercial services around the world, ranks office markets in North America by size. The Voit Companies provide development, brokerage and management services on the West Coast. Stirling Properties offers commercial real estate and property management services in Louisiana. 4. Message Boards. Ive relabeled the Discussion Forum as the "Message Boards" because I think that more accurately describes its content. As I browse through the various folders, I continue to be impressed at the breadth of knowledge of PikeNet readers and their willingness to share information. For example, this week Dennis Boles at Landauer Associates posted a response in the Leasing Issues folder to question: What is a synthetic lease? Youll, also, find his answer in the Knowledge Base in the Financial Research section. To access the Message Boards, click the hyperlink on the PikeNet home page or use the link below: PikeNet Message Board To access the Knowledge Base, click the hyperlink at the top of the PikeNet home page or use the link below: http://www.pikenet.com/ 5. New Categories. Early this week, my web development firm, Internet Business Solutions, launched a new database interface at PikeNet that enables me to create Categories and Sub Categories very easily. So over the next couple of weeks, Ill be adding categories that are better related to a companys business focus. .. For example, youll find a Telecommunications Management category, under the Advisory & Management Channel with three firms that specialize in this area. Another impact of this new interface is that I need to change hundreds of internal links at PikeNet. So give me a bit of time to do this! 6. Canceling and Subscribing.
