1. Grubb & Ellis Picks LoopNet. Grubb & Ellis recently launched its newly designed web site and chose LoopNet, the Internet commercial listing service, to provide the database for its property listings. When you are in the G&E site, the transition to listing information is seamless, and you would not know that you were looking at information on the LoopNet server, except by the URL. According to Dennis DeAndre, President of Loop Ventures, each G&E office is responsible for inputting its own listings into LoopNet. During the first week and a half, DeAndre states that LoopNet received over 1,000 listings, about equally divided between for sale and for lease listings. At the LoopNet web site, all G&E listings are available, along with all other listings; while at the G&E site, only G&E listings are visible. This alliance reflects the realization, I believe, that in the future large service providers will not derive value in simply knowing property availability, but rather in understanding the "why" of a propertys availability. Why is it available? How is it valued? What are its pluses and minuses? Providing easy public access to all G&E listings also reflects, I believe, the pressure on owners to have their properties exposed as widely as possible on the Internet. Can REITs and investment advisors be far behind? 2. Web Success--E-Mail Launches WinStack Solution. When Bruce Hursh, investment broker at Trammell Crow, needed stacking plans to include in offering circulars for a thirteen-building BancOne portfolio, he visited WinStacks web site and sent e-mail to Ted Stearns, president of Winstack, to request further information. According to Bruce, he created the stacking plans in numerous formats in less than a day by importing tenant data for hundreds of tenants from his lease analysis system. "WinStack saved me more than a week of work to create these plans and they look so much more professional." Do you have a Web Success story? Send me e-mail. Strata Real Estate Services, a division of Heitman Properties Ltd., provides property and facilities management, and leasing services. Headquartered in Atlanta, Carter & Associates offers brokerage, development and property management services in the Southeast.
